At Reliable Medical Supply, we offer lots of choices when it comes to mattresses designed for hospital beds. All of our mattresses are designed to improve patient comfort and some are also capable of reducing the pressure on the body placed by gravity. The choice of a mattress is important when an individual is using a hospital bed. Of course, comfort is always a premium. But spending many hours in bed can also result in the development of pressure-ulcers. To prevent that from happening, Pressure-reducing mattresses redistribute a patient's weight so as to relieve pressure points of the body where it touches the mattress.
Here are some general descriptions of the types of mattresses available:
Foam Mattress - may contain 1 to 4 different types of foam each one displaying a different level of firmness. This is the entry level mattress for those not needing any type of healing or pressure reduction.
Non-Powered Pressure Reduction Mattress - Channels air through cells for maximum patient immersion.
Alternating Pressure Mattress - Alternates inflation and deflation of cells to constantly change pressure points and promote circulation.
Low Air Loss Mattress - Floats the patient on air-filled cells while circulating air across the skin to reduce moisture and help maintain a constant skin interface pressure.
Hybrid Pressure Reduction Mattress - Combines both pressure relieving foam layers with fully encased air channels. These mattresses can be powered or non-powered.
